A WalMart store in Utah is selling a brand new, FDA-approved vaccine for coronavirus that is supposed to go on sale in September.
The vaccine, called “Osco,” is manufactured by AstraZeneca and has been available since February.
The FDA approval means that WalMart will be the first pharmacy in the country to sell the vaccine.
The vaccines are being sold under the name “OssoBust” in stores and online, and the store said they are designed to help patients stay healthy during the pandemic.
WalMart said it received “substantial public support” in the US and worldwide for the vaccine and is working to ramp up production in the United States.
It also said the vaccine is “a safer alternative” to the more expensive AstraZanac vaccine, which was developed for use in hospitals and is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.
Walmart said the Osco vaccine is being distributed to more than 1,200 pharmacies nationwide.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to help people keep their loved ones safe during this incredibly dangerous time,” said Tom McKean, chief operating officer at WalMart Stores, in a statement.
